A Quiet Place 3, the third installment in the horror series, is officially in development. After the success of A Quiet Place Part II at the box office in the United States, this isn’t surprising.
Also in 2024, the prequel movie A Quiet Place: Day One is set to be released. The film introduces a new set of characters in New York on the first day of the alien invasion and is not expected to include the Abbotts at all. However, a direct sequel to A Quiet Place Part II is still in the works at Paramount. Nevertheless, it’s worth noting that according to EW in February 2024, the initially planned 2025 release for the sequel has undergone some changes since the initial announcement.
It’s anticipated that John Krasinski will come back to write and direct the third installment. While we await more news, here’s everything you need to know about A Quiet Place 3.
In November 2020, Paramount confirmed a new movie set in the world of A Quiet Place. It’s based on an original idea by Krasinski but will be written and directed by Jeff Nichols and is set to be a spin-off rather than a direct sequel to Part II.

A year following the success of A Quiet Place 2 at the box office, Paramount officially revealed that A Quiet Place 3 was in progress and scheduled for a 2025 theatrical release. Currently in development, the film has John Krasinski attached as the writer, with a few cast members listed. While the plot details for A Quiet Place 3 remain tightly under wraps, Emily Blunt mentioned in an interview with Collider that her husband has a “whole arc of ideas” for the next installment.
What is the “A Quiet Place” franchise about?
A Quiet Place Part II was a relatively big success for Paramount, as one of the first major blockbusters released post-COVID vaccinations, grossing $297.4 million worldwide. The film was initially set to come out on March 20, 2020 (nearly two years after the original film’s 2018 release) but was, of course, delayed due to the beginning of the pandemic. A Quiet Place gained a lot of buzz for its effective, inventive premise. The first film was a smash hit, grossing $340 million worldwide.
A Quiet Place series portrays a family fighting to survive in a post-apocalyptic world caused by an alien invasion. The creatures can’t see and must rely on their hearing to get about. The horror-thriller series centers on the characters’ struggles to live by remaining silent. Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe, Millicent Simmonds, and Cillian Murphy star in the series.
Movie Plot
Official details about the story of A Quiet Place 3 are currently unavailable. However, Krasinski has a tentative idea of where the final installment in the trilogy could go narratively. In A Quiet Place 2, the main storyline involves Regan and Emmett tracking down a mysterious radio signal that leads them to an island, that serves as a safe haven for humans. Presumably, A Quiet Place 3 might expand on this plot point, exploring how humans try to resist the aliens. Emily Blunt has mentioned the planned trilogy, indicating that A Quiet Place 3 will continue to delve into the theme of humanity’s resistance against the alien threat.
A Quiet Place 3 cast
Since A Quiet Place Part Two picked up directly after the events of the first film, we’d be surprised if the third one didn’t follow suit. With this in mind, we’ll most definitely see the return of Emily Blunt as Evelyn Abbott, Millicent Simmonds as her daughter, Regan, and Noah Jupe as her son, Marcus.
In A Quiet Place 2, we were also introduced to Cillian Murphy as Emmett, who formed a fatherly connection with Regan and helped her fight against the aliens to reach the island. Both remained alive and well, as far as we know, at the end of Part Two and should return together in Part Three.
Unfortunately, Djimon Hounsou as Man on Island suffered a vicious attack and there was no sign of return, which may hint that his character will not feature in the next installment. We’ve also been treated to an appearance from John Krasinski as Lee Abbott, Evelyn’s husband, and Regan and Marcus’s father, in flashbacks, which could continue in A Quiet Place 3.
A Quiet Place 3 Release Date
Despite the promising progress of the highly-anticipated threequel, recent news reveals that A Quiet Place 3 has faced a delay. Initially scheduled for a 2025 release, the film’s timeline has been changed, with no new release window provided. The reason for the delay remains unknown, with the report simply stating that the film will not be released as originally expected in 2025.
Until then, audiences can look forward to enjoying A Quiet Place: Day One when it hits theaters on June 28, 2024.
