Outer Banks Season 3: Release Date, Cast, and Everything

2023 is here, which means it’s finally time for Outer Banks Season 3. We’ve been waiting oh-so-patiently for any news of the buzzy drama, and Netflix has finally revealed the premiere date for the third installment.

John B. (Chase Stokes) and his group of friends are always on the hunt for the next treasure, and we’re expecting Season 3 to be packed with more action and adventure. The last we saw the Pogues in Outer Banks‘ Season 2 finale, they were chasing after the coveted Cross of Santo Domingo. While they did not get their hands on the ultimate prize, the Pogues at least escaped mostly unscathed.

Brief Background of Outer Banks

Netflix’s Outer Banks was released in 2020 during the midst of the global pandemic, with viewers tuning into the teen drama to get away from the real world. Right away, the show was attractive due to the hazy orange coloring the show displayed throughout each episode, making it seem even more like summer in North Carolina. The show is essentially a rivalry between the Pogues-middle-class working individuals and the Kooks-wealthy silver spoon individuals. It turns out to be much more than that, as the series explores murders, drugs, toxic family dynamics, and loyalty through friends.

Created by Josh PateJonas Pate, and Shannon BurkeOuter Banks follows a group of teenagers in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where society has a clear and sharp divide. The wealthy seasonal residents, or Kooks, and the local, working-class people, known as the Pogues. The story revolves around the Pogue teenagers who live in the neighborhood of The Cut. The kids are on a mission to find the missing father of their group leader, John B (Chase Stokes). Along the way, they discover a buried pirate treasure that could be connected to the disappearance. With only their determination and friendship keeping them alive, the Pogues fight law enforcement and the Kooks, while dealing with personal relationships, drug abuse, romance, money, and the helplessness of being underprivileged American teenagers.

The action-adventure mystery teen drama dropped its second season in July 2021 with a huge cliffhanger, leaving fans to speculate about what could come next. Season 2 delivered a poignant finale with a big reveal about John B’s father, and we all have a lot of questions to be answered. And those questions can only be answered with a new season.

Is There a Season 3 Trailer

A teaser trailer for Outer Banks Season 3 was released by Netflix on September 24, 2022, as part of the streamer’s TUDUM event.

What will Outer Banks season 3 be about?

Per a description from Netflix, season 3 of Outer Banks kicks off with the Pogues washing up on a desert island after losing the gold and fleeing their hometown. Their new location “seems like an idyllic home,” but “things quickly go south” for the show’s central group.

“They find themselves once again caught up in a race for the treasure, quite literally running for their lives,” a synopsis from Netflix reads.

“They’re broke and far from home, they can’t trust anyone, Ward and Rafe are hungry for revenge, and there’s a ruthless Caribbean Don who will stop at nothing to find the bounty,” the description continues. “Was the treasure ever within their reach? Or was it all a trap to stop them once and for all? Either way, it’s the Pogues against the world – and the only way out is together.”

Outer Banks Season 3

“John B’s relationship with his dad is a huge theme,” showrunner Josh Pate previously told Entertainment Weekly about season 3. “And having his dad back around and eventually they’re going to meet back up and John B has to reconcile his idealized version of his dead dad with the reality of his alive dad, it gives us a lot of thematic father-son stuff to work with.”

Pate teased that there could be some new romances developing as well, particularly with Kiara and JJ. “That was one thing we really loved about season 1 that’s less of an element of season 2 that we really want to get back to,” Pate said. “That was the plan, kind of architecting the characters towards opening up some romances in season 3.”

Who is coming back for season 3?

We can expect to see Chase Stokes as John B Routledge, Madelyn Cline as Sarah Cameron, Madison Bailey as Kiara “Kie” Carrera, Jonathan Daviss as Pope Heyward, Rudy Pankow as JJ Maybank, Charles Harford as Big John, and Charles Esten as Ward Cameron, all return to their roles in the third installment of Outer Banks.

The other supporting cast members that we believe could also return in Outer Banks Season 3 are Drew Starkey as Rafe Cameron, Austin North as Topper, Elizabeth Mitchell as Carla Limbrey, Carlacia Grant as Cleo, Caroline Arapoglou as Rose, Cullen Moss as Deputy Shoupe, E. Roger Mitchell as Heyward, Samantha Soule as Anna Carrera, Gary Weeks as Luke Maybank.
