‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’: Meet the Voices Behind Each Animated Character

After a long wait of eleven years since the release of “Puss in Boots,” the beloved feline character is finally making a comeback. The upcoming animated film, written by Paul Fisher, promises to deliver an exciting blend of action, adventure, and comedy. It reunites a talented ensemble cast of internationally recognized actors who lend their voices to the characters. This includes Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Olivia Colman, and Florence Pugh, among others. Fans can expect an entertaining and thrilling experience as they join Puss in Boots on his latest escapades on the big screen.

In “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” directed by Joel Crawford and co-directed by Januel Mercado, we follow Puss, voiced by Antonio Banderas, on an exciting quest to find a magical wishing star and regain his nine lives. After facing death eight times, a doctor suggests that Puss should retire, but he struggles with accepting that idea. While trying to retire, Puss stays with a cat lover and meets another feline named Perro, voiced by Harvey Guillén. Perro joins Puss and Kitty Softpaws, voiced by Salma Hayek Pinault, as they venture into the Black Forest in search of the star. Along the way, they encounter evil characters and face dangerous challenges that put Puss’ life at risk. In the trailer, Kitty reminds Puss that having only one life makes it special.

Puss has appeared in various films, such as “Shrek 2,” “Shrek the Third,” and “Shrek Forever After.” In 2011, he got his own standalone movie titled “Puss in Boots.” Now, his adventure continues in “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.”

01. Antonio Banderas/Puss in Boots

Puss, voiced by Antonio Banderas, embarks on a quest to regain his lost nine lives instead of retiring. Banderas is well-known for lending his voice to Puss in the Shrek franchise and its spinoff movies. He gained international recognition by starring opposite Madonna in “Evita” and later took on the lead role in “The Mask of Zorro” and its sequel, “The Legend of Zorro.” Recently, he appeared alongside Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg in “Uncharted” and is set to be featured in the upcoming release of “Indiana Jones 5” in June 2023.

02. Salma Hayek Pinault/Kitty Softpaws 

Salma Hayek Pinault returns as the voice of Kitty Softpaws, Puss’ former girlfriend and sometimes rival. She assists Puss on his journey, leading to various exciting adventures. This isn’t the first time Pinault has starred alongside Banderas, as they have previously acted together in movies like “Desperado” and “Once Upon a Time in Mexico.” Pinault is also well-known for her role in “Frida,” which received six Academy Award nominations. In February 2023, she will appear alongside Channing Tatum in “Magic Mike’s Last Dance.”

03. Florence Pugh/Goldilocks

Florence Pugh lends her voice to the character of an evil teenage Goldilocks who becomes one of Puss’ adversaries in his adventure. Pugh began her film career in 2014 with The Falling and has since gained recognition for her performances in movies like Midsommar and Little Women. Her recent leading role in Don’t Worry Darling, alongside Harry Styles, has also garnered attention.

04. Harvey Guillén/Perro 

Harvey Guillén provides the voice for Perro, a scruffy and ambitious therapy dog, whom Puss encounters during his temporary stay at the home of a cat enthusiast. Perro subsequently joins Puss and Kitty on their journey into the forest. Guillén is recognized for his portrayal in the 2019 TV series What We Do in the Shadows.

05. John Mulaney/Jack Horner

John Mulaney lends his voice to the character of Jack Horner, a large and menacing figure that Puss encounters during his adventures. Mulaney is known for his voice work in films like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and the TV series Big Mouth. Additionally, he has written numerous episodes for Saturday Night Live.

06. Wagner Moura/The Big Bad Wolf 

Wagner Moura provides the voice for The Big Bad Wolf, a formidable bounty hunter determined to capture Puss. In addition to his roles in TV series like Narcos and Shining Girls, Moura is a musician, serving as a lyricist and vocalist for a band called Sua Mãe.

07. Ray Winstone/Papa Bear 

Ray Winstone lends his voice to Papa Bear, the head of a criminal family who pursues Puss. Winstone has also provided voice work for other films such as Rango, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and Beowulf.

08. Olivia Colman/Mama Bear

Olivia Colman lends her voice to Mama Bear, completing the crime family dynamic. Colman is widely recognized for her roles in The Crown, The Favourite, Tyrannosaur, and The Lost Daughter. She is also set to appear in the upcoming film Wonka, scheduled for release in 2023.

09. Samson Kayo/Baby Bear 

Samson Kayo provides the voice for Baby Bear, who is a part of the crime family. Kayo is recognized for his roles in Bloods, The Bubble, and Our Flag Means Death.

10. Anthony Mendez/Doctor

Anthony Mendez lends his voice to the concerned physician who advises Puss to retire due to having only one life remaining. Mendez is known for his Emmy-nominated narration work on the CW’s Jane the Virgin and PBS’ documentary series Wonders of Mexico.
