The Expendables are back – after much to-ing and fro-ing about whether its lead star Sylvester Stallone would return. But rest assured, the main man is back along with both familiar and fresh faces.
The first movie debuted in 2010 and the second in 2012, with the franchise itself making $804 million (£583 million) globally. It’s no surprise, then, that a fourth film was on the horizon.
The rumblings began way back in 2014, but it took until 2018 for Stallone to return and the wheels to really begin turning. With years of work already going on behind the scenes, here’s what we know so far about the fourth and final Expendables movie.
The Expendables 4 cast: Who will return for The Expendables 4 movie?

Stallone had first announced he would be part of the fourth movie in 2014, but in 2017 he left, citing creative differences over the script and the direction for continuing the franchise.
However, he rejoined the film at the beginning of 2018, taking up his role once again as Barney Ross. Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture are all teaming up again too as Lee Christmas, Gunner Jensen and Toll Road.
Arnold Schwarzenegger previously said he wouldn’t return unless Stallone was involved. Well, Stallone is on board but there’s no word on whether Schwarzenegger’s Trench Mauser will be back.
New faces to the film are Power‘s 50 Cent, Transformers‘ Megan Fox, and Furious 7 star Tony Jaa whose roles are, for the moment, under wraps.
Millennium’s media president commented on the casting, saying: “[We] couldn’t be more excited to bring this star-studded, action-packed film to the big screen with Lionsgate, who have been with us since the inception of this franchise. To keep it fresh and fun, we’ve added exciting new stars to join the veterans; popcorn entertainment is guaranteed.”
What is The Expendables 4 about?
There’s no official plot synopsis yet, but Lionsgate’s Jason Constantine described the film as a “no-holds-barred action film” that will “raise the stakes and be the biggest, most badass adventure yet.” Nice and vague!

Scott Waugh is set to direct, with Spenser Cohen penning the script (with revisions from Max Adams and John Joseph Connolly).
According to The Hollywood Reporter: “The plot will once again focus on a group of veteran mercenaries. And while the initial movies from in the early 2010s had Stallone as the focal point, sources say in this outing Statham will be the one with the biggest gun. Fox is the female lead.”
When is The Expendables 4 out in cinemas?

We’re sad to report that no release date has been announced as of writing. However, we do know that production on The Expendables 4 is set to begin in October, assuming there are no delays. (Delays are something the industry has unfortunately become accustomed to.)
As far as any footage, for now, you’ll have to sate your appetite for action by watching the first three Expendables movies. Luckily, they’re all available on Amazon Prime Video.
Where can you watch the Expendables Movies?
You can find the first three The Expendables movies on Netflix. Each got a full theatrical release before coming to streaming, so don’t expect the latest to just appear on your dash any time soon.
The Expendables 4 is likely to be in cinemas first when it does come out, before making its way to home media. In any case, you can catch up on the preceding trilogy on the streaming service Netflix for now.
Does The Expendables 4 Have a Trailer?
This is going to be a bit of bad news for fans. There’s so far been no official trailer released for The Expendables 4. But we should be seeing some promotional videos once we get closer to the release date so do stay tuned for all the trailers and promos of the upcoming action-thriller.
