‘The Last Kingdom’ Sequel Seven Kings Must Die:  Everything We Know So Far

“The Last Kingdom” concludes on Netflix, and the movie “Seven Kings Must Die” will serve as the epic finale to Uhtred of Bebbanburg’s story.

“Seven Kings Must Die” will be a continuation of “The Last Kingdom,” following the adventures of Uhtred of Bebbanburg. This 2-hour-long sequel will see Uhtred and his companions journeying across the fragmented kingdom to unite England after the death of King Edward. During this time, invaders and rival heirs will vie for the crown, leading to intense battles and conflicts. The film will bring back familiar characters from the series, with Alexander Dreymon reprising his role as Uhtred. The announcement about the production of “Seven Kings Must Die” was made by Dreymon at the London MCM Comic-Con in 2021.

After the BBC canceled “The Last Kingdom” after two seasons, Netflix stepped in and picked up the show. Netflix collaborated with the BBC on “The Last Kingdom,” and beyond the UK, the series was released as a Netflix Original. With Netflix’s involvement, three more remarkable seasons were produced, and now, with the upcoming film, we’ll witness a dramatic and epic conclusion to the story of Uhtred of Bebbanburg.

The Plot

“The Last Kingdom” is adapted from Bernard Cornwell’s “Saxon Stories.” The series is set in the year 866 and revolves around the arrival of the Great Heathen Army in Britain and the Kingdom of Wessex’s ongoing struggle against Viking raids. The story mainly focuses on Uhtred, a warrior who was born to a Saxon lord but raised by a Danish warlord after being abducted as a child. While “The Last Kingdom” concluded after its fifth season, the narrative continues in “Seven Kings Must Die.”

As of now, there is no official synopsis available for “Seven Kings Must Die.” However, we can expect the following:

After successfully reclaiming his ancestral home of Bebbanburg, Uhtred made a promise to remain neutral in any conflict between King Constantin of Alba and King Edward of Wessex, in order to maintain peace. However, this decision puts Edward’s vision of a unified England at risk, and Uhtred wonders if another Wessex king will break their word and betray him. All Uhtred desires is to live peacefully in Bebbanburg, but fate might have other plans, and he may find himself once again playing a crucial role in shaping the future of England.
