Mike Flanagan’s next big Netflix project follows midnight fair, The Haunting of Hill House and Bly mansion will be an adaptation of the novel by Christopher Pike, The Midnight Club. Here’s an up-to-date overview of everything you need to know The Midnight Club including the plot, cast news, production updates and Netflix release date.
The Midnight Club is an upcoming Netflix Original teen horror series from The spook Creator Mike Flanagan. Based on the bestselling novel by Christopher Pike, The Midnight Club will be the fifth Netflix original series for Flanagan.
Before we dive into what we know about Season 1 of The Midnight Club, here’s the first look we got at Netflix’s Geeked Week:
Leah Fong is serving as writer, executive producer and creator on this project alongside Flanagan. Fong has previously worked with Flanagan The Haunting of Bly Manor.
Intrepid Pictures and Field House Productions are producing the series.
The project was first announced by Variety in May 2020. Speaking of the announcement, Flanagan said in a tweet:
“I started brainstorming for an adaptation of THE MIDNIGHT CLUB as a teenager, so this is a dream come true. It’s an honor to introduce a new generation of young horror fans to the world of Christopher Pike. Oh, and for the other Pike fans out there… the article is right, we’ll be adding a lot of his books to the series. Whatever your favorite Pike book is, chances are it’s part of the show.”

When is The Midnight Club Netflix release date?
Most of Flanagan’s past series arrived around September/October to headline Netflix’s Halloween roster. The Midnight Club also follows this trend.

What is the plot of The Midnight Club?
The series is based on one of prolific author Christopher Pike’s many books. It is one of the many standalone novels published by the author. Some of his other well-known titles are Remember Me, Weekend, Die Softly, Whisper of Death and The Return.
The Midnight Club was released in 1994 and while the cover gives the impression of some cheesy 90’s teenage horror, the truth lies much deeper.
If you’ve never read the book, here’s what the story is about:
“A group of terminally ill teenagers live in the Rotterdam Home and together found the Midnight Club. They secretly meet at midnight to tell horror stories. Together, the group makes a pact that whoever dies first would bother to contact the rest of the Midnight Club members from beyond the grave.”

Who directs The Midnight Club
Mike Flanagan will not be directing any episodes of The Midnight Club, which he usually does for all his series.
Instead, Michael Fimognari is said to be directing the episodes (and credited as cinematographer on IMDb). His previous work includes The Haunting of Hill House, doctor sleep and surprisingly two movies in Netflix To all boys Rom-Com Franchise.
What is the number of episodes?

That has been confirmed The Midnight Club will have a total of ten episodes. Running times are yet to be confirmed, but we expect episodes to last between 45 and 60 minutes.
Finally, thanks to the excellent Mike Flanagan Source Twitter account (@flanaganquelle) who meticulously scours the internet to find anything and everything Mike Flanagan. Props to her.
