‘Bioshock’ Netflix Movie : Everything We Know So Far

‘Bioshock’ Netflix Movie: Bioshock movie is finally coming to Netflix. Previous attempts to make a movie inspired by the popular video game franchise failed, but the streaming giant is in charge this time, and if you’re a fan of the critically-acclaimed RPG, you’re probably hyped for the film adaptation.

In February 2022, Netflix announced that Bioshock movie on social media: “Netflix, 2K and Take-Two Interactive are partnering to produce a film adaptation of the renowned video game franchise BioShock“.

What is Bioshock about?

The story of the original 2007 Bioshock game is set in 1960, and follows Jack who discovers the underwater city known as Rapture. The city was built by business magnate Andrew Ryan to be an isolated utopia. However, the discovery of ADAM, a genetic material which grants superhuman powers, initiated the Rapture’s turbulent decline.

Jack tries to escape Rapture, fighting ADAM-obsessed enemies and Big Daddies, while interacting with the few sane humans that remain and learning of the city’s past. Without going to major plot twists, Jack is able to fight enemies using weapons, utilizing plasmids that grant unique powers, and by the turning the city’s defenses against them.

It’s still unclear if Netflix’s Bioshock movie will be a direct adaptation of any of the Bioshock games. At the time of this writing, Netflix hasn’t revealed any details about the movie’s plot and setting, but given the original game’s iconic location, it’ll likely be set in Rapture.

When is the Bioshock movie coming to Netflix?

Since no details other than its existence were announced, there is currently no release date for Netflix’s upcoming Bioshock movie. It’s likely that it’s still early in its pre-production, so it’ll likely arrive sometime in 2023-2024 at the earliest.

Who will direct, and produce write, Netflix’s Bioshock movie?

On Aug. 25, Deadline reported that Netflix has tapped Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence to direct the Bioshock movie, with Michael Green adapting the script.

Roy Lee will produce the film through his Vertigo Entertainment along with Lawrence for about:blank and 2K. The movie will also be executive-produced by Cameron MacConomy for about: blank and Strauss Zelnick for Take-Two.

Is there already a trailer for Netflix’s Bioshock movie?

Since production hasn’t officially started for Netflix’s live-action Bioshock movie, don’t expect a trailer to come out anytime soon. For now, you can re-watch the trailer for the original 2017 Bioshock game to remind you of Rapture:
