Sequel to ‘The Nun’: Continuing the Success of the ‘Conjuring’ Franchise’s Highest-Grossing Film
The recently released trailer for The Nun 2 is bringing audiences back into the world of the Conjuring Universe. This film serves as a sequel to the 2018 movie The Nun, which achieved great success and became the highest-grossing film in the Conjuring franchise, earning $365.5 million worldwide. The story revolves around a demonic nun portrayed by Bonnie Aarons and is set in 1952. Aarons first portrayed this character in The Conjuring 2.
In the sequel, Taissa Farmiga reprises her role as Sister Irene, while Storm Reid joins the cast as well. The film is being produced by James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Peter Safran’s The Safran Company, with Wan also involved in the production.
Directed by Michael Chaves, the sequel is set in 1966 and follows the story of Sister Irene’s friend Maurice, who becomes possessed by the demon Valak. After a disturbing incident at the French school where Maurice works, Sister Irene embarks on a journey to the countryside to investigate. Along the way, she receives assistance from the character played by Storm Reid.

This film contributed to the franchise’s overall success, pushing its total box office earnings to over $2 billion globally.
“The Nun 2,” the ninth film in the Conjuring Universe franchise, is scheduled to be released in theaters on September 8 by New Line Cinema. The studio has additional plans for the series, including “The Conjuring: Last Rites,” which has been announced as the title for the final installment of the main franchise. “The Conjuring: Last Rites” will feature the returning stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, with Vera Farmiga being the sister of Taissa Farmiga, who plays Sister Irene in “The Nun” films.
