Code 8: Part 2: Netflix is set to exclusively release the highly-anticipated sequel to the successful sci-fi film Code 8. Titled ‘Code 8: Part II,’ the streaming giant offers a sneak peek at the upcoming sequel and announces its global premiere date.
Netflix Release
Originally a YouTube short, Code 8 expanded into a full-feature film in 2019, garnering significant attention upon its Netflix release in April 2020. The film remained in the US top 10s for over two weeks, leading to the creation of a TV series for Quibi, which is now defunct. In June 2021, Netflix acquired the rights for a sequel.
Behind the Scene
Netflix’s first original Canadian English-language feature acquisition is Code 8: Part 2, obtained through XYZ Films, which has been involved in other Netflix productions. The film is produced by Collective Pictures, led by Jeff Chan, and features PLAYFIGHT VFX handling the visual effects.
Plot of ‘Code 8: Part 2’
The sequel follows a teenage girl on a quest for justice after her brother is murdered by corrupt police officers. She joins forces with a former convict (Robbie Amell) and his ex-partner (Stephen Amell) to expose corrupt cops using advanced robotic technology to hide their wrongdoing.
Cast of ‘Code 8: Part 2’
Stephen Amell and Robbie Amell are back, reprising their roles from the first film. The sequel brings in new cast members, such as Alex Mallari Jr., Natalie Liconti, Jane Moffat, Aaron Abrams, Moe Jeudy-Lamour, Sirena Gulamgaus, Sammy Azero, Sarena Parmar, Noorin Gulamgaus, Akiel Julien, Mikayla Swami Nathan, Jessica Allen, and Jean Yoon.
Filming Location and schedule
‘Code 8: Part II’ was filmed over two months, from October to December 2021, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, with scenes filmed at Skylight Steelworks. Initially planned for a 2023 release, it is now scheduled to be one of the first major movie releases of 2024.
Global premiere date
After high anticipation, Netflix has announced that ‘Code 8: Part II’ will be released on February 28, 2024.
