Jackie Chan has finally confirmed that he is in talks for Rush Hour 4, which is one of the most highly anticipated installments of the successful action-comedy franchise for years now. “We’re talking about Rush Hour 4 right now,” he said.
He made the announcement at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in front of a crowd of fans as he spoke about his upcoming projects. The original Rush Hour which was released in 1998, not only became an instant fan favorite but also cemented Chan’s image as a comic hero. Till then, people only knew him as a popular action hero.
The movie, which, paired him with Chris Tucker also allowed him to use his own ‘Jackie Chan’ style. Although he originally thought the movie would not be successful, it turned out to be a blockbuster hit. “I got a phone call. Brett Ratner and Chris Tucker call me from New York. They’re crazy. We were $70 million in the first weekend. For me, I don’t know how to count.”
Here is all we know so far about Rush Hour 4:
Rush Hour 4 release date
The release date of the movie is not known at this time.
Chan initially confirmed in October 2017 that Rush Hour 4 would be expected in 2018. After that, almost no details about the movie were released, leading fans to believe that the movie was shelved.
Rush Hour 4 plot
The IMDB page for the movie says that the plot of the movie is unknown at this time.
“Good news,” Chan told Digital Spy in October 2017. “Next year. Rush Hour 4, I hope the script will be done. Tomorrow we’re meeting with the director and Chris Tucker and making sure we’re going on the right track.”
In 2019, Tucker confirmed that the script was being worked on.
“We’re working on a few things on the script right now,” Chris said on the Winging It podcast. “Jackie Chan wants to do it, I want to do it, the studio wants to do it, so we’re trying to get it together.”
Tucker also told ABC News in 2019 that both he and Chan were “talking about doing something new and something different.”
Rush Hour 4 cast
In the franchise, Jackie Chan played Inspector Lee and Chris Tucker played the role of LAPD Officer Carter. On the Rush Hour 4 IMDB page, Tucker is listed to be a rumored cast member but there is no mention of Chan on the page.
However, a trivia on the page says Chan has admitted that he was not interested in reprising his role as Lee. He even said that he would only reprise his role if the script was good. Tucker, on the other hand, joined for the fourth installment not even looking at the script.
