Disney’s ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ Sequel: Everything We Know So Far

“The beloved cult classic is finally getting a sequel that explores new stories from a unique point of view.”

Tim Burton, known for his distinctive animation style, is making a comeback. He first gained recognition with his debut film “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” in 1985 and has since impressed audiences with his unique blend of horror and thriller elements. One of his most beloved works is the 1993 stop-motion animated film “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Excitingly, it has been reported that a sequel to this cult classic is finally in the works.

In the 1993 film, “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” the story revolved around Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, who grew tired of his monotonous routine. One day, he accidentally discovers Christmas Town and becomes inspired to bring Christmas to his own town. With the help of his loyal ghost dog Zero and Sally, a rag doll who becomes his love interest, Jack embarks on a mission to make Halloween Town embrace the spirit of Christmas.

Although the film “The Nightmare Before Christmas” concluded with Jack and Sally’s relationship blossoming, Halloween Town experiencing snow, and Santa Claus being saved, many fans were curious about the future adventures of these beloved characters.

Surprising fans who were anticipating a sequel film, Disney Publishing announced that the continuation of the story would be released as a book. Initially, Disney had plans for a movie sequel, but their preference for CGI animation instead of stop-motion, which Tim Burton declined, led to the change in format.

What Is The Plot Of The Nightmare Before Christmas Sequel?

The upcoming sequel, titled The Nightmare Before Christmas: Long Live the Pumpkin Queen, will be penned by Shea Ernshaw and will shift the narrative perspective to Sally. Set shortly after the events of the original film, the story will delve into Sally’s experiences as she embraces her new role as the Pumpkin Queen of Halloween Town alongside Jack.

As Sally becomes the Pumpkin Queen and goes on adventures in various realms and holiday towns, she faces problems and learns more about herself. These experiences help her understand who she is and grow as a person.

Although the sequel was announced in 2019 and originally scheduled for a 2022 release, there is no clear information on the new release date for the film. However, fans can look forward to the release of the book in August 2022. It’s worth noting that there is already a gaming sequel called “The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie’s Revenge,” so the upcoming book will essentially be the third installment in “The Nightmare Before Christmas” universe.
