Many of the cast members are younger and thus newer faces to the scene. Plot

This is the first superhero project that will feature a Muslim hero as the lead, as the series will focus on the Kamala Khan version of the character. Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel is one of the newer Marvel superheroes, making her first comic book appearance in 2014. In the comics, Kamala Khan is a Pakistani American growing up in Jersey City who looks up to superheroes like Captain Marvel, which are key characteristics that the Ms. Marvel TV show appears to follow.

The name Ms. Marvel was the heroic name originally given to Carol Danvers when she first debuted in 1976. She held on to that identity for many years, only becoming Captain Marvel in 2012. When she finally earned her Captaincy, a new teenage character earned the Ms. Marvel moniker. Kamala Khan was a Pakistani American from Jersey City, New Jersey, with shapeshifting powers that she inherited from her latent Inhuman DNA.

We’ve been anxiously awaiting a real look at Ms. Marvel since we first caught glimpses at a Disney+ sizzle reel in 2020, but now we’re so excited to have a full trailer.

Who is Ms. Marvel and what are her powers?

Kamala Khan becomes Ms. Marvel in the comics when a mysterious mist awakens latent powers within her, which include the ability to alter her size and shape. It is unclear as of yet if the backstory to how Kamala got her powers will stay the same. However, with what we see in the trailer it looks like some special bracelets help unlock her power. Among her powers teased include what looks like telekinetic abilities and creating a large cosmic energy-like fist.

In terms of what we know from the comics, Ms. Marvel has a powerful connection to her family, with the bracelets that give her powers coming from her grandmother. This family connection is also one of the key struggles that Kamala experiences as she struggles to balance being a high schooler, a good daughter, and a superhero.
