Disney Plus has been the exclusive home for a number of new and continuing MCU stories, like WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Hawkeye, and Moon Knight. Disney Plus is also now the home of The Defenders’ original series (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher), which originally aired on Netflix. Now it’s going to introduce another new superhero — Ms. Marvel
The Disney+ Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding! And it’s set to include the beloved character Kamala Khan. Peter Parker isn’t the only Marvel character struggling to find the balance between high school and saving the world. The upcoming Disney+ series Ms. Marvel introduces the newest teenage superhero to the MCU. Here’s everything we know about the Ms. Marvel series.

A sizzle reel for Ms. Marvel, which gave a brief preview of the character from the producers and creators and some early footage was released in December 2020.
Ms. Marvel Release Date
The show is slated to premiere on June 8, 2022, and will have a total of six episodes. These episodes are expected to release in weekly releases through July 13. It should be noted that this is only for the United States, with other countries having different release schedules. So far, all information points to countries like Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom having the same weekly release dates but Pakistan will be having a cinematic release of the series in two-episode sequences.
The cast of Ms. Marvel
Iman Vellani is cast as the main character Kamala Khan and she will be joined by Saagar Shaikh as Kamala’s brother Amir Khan. They will also be joined by experienced actor Aramis Knight as Red Dagger / Kareem. Zenobia Shroff and Mohan Kapoor will play Kamala’s parents, Muneeba Khan and Yusuf Khan. Zenobia has acted in the TV series The Affair and Mohan is a well-experienced actor with more than 70 credits to his name starting from as early as 1979. The cast list also includes Matt Lintz as Kamala’s best friend Bruno Carrelli, Yasmeen Fletcher as Nakia Bahadir, Rish Shah as Kamran, Laurel Marsden as Zoe Zimmer, Adaku Ononogbo as Fariha, Laith Nakli as Sheikh Abdullah, and Travina Springer as Amir’s wife Tyesha Hillman.
Additionally, Fawad Khan, Arian Moayed, Alysia Reiner, Azhar Usman, Nimra Bucha, Alyy Khan, Mehwish Hayat, Anjali Bhimani, and Farhan Akhtar have been cast in as-yet-undisclosed roles. Many of the cast members are younger and thus newer faces to the scene. Even most of the more experienced actors are not well-known faces, so this may be a break-out series for many of the characters, especially with the extreme likelihood that many of these characters will be featured in the upcoming movie The Marvels.
This is the first superhero project that will feature a Muslim hero as the lead, as the series will focus on the Kamala Khan version of the character. Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel is one of the newer Marvel superheroes, making her first comic book appearance in 2014. In the comics, Kamala Khan is a Pakistani American growing up in Jersey City who looks up to superheroes like Captain Marvel, which are key characteristics that the Ms. Marvel TV show appears to follow.
The name Ms. Marvel was the heroic name originally given to Carol Danvers when she first debuted in 1976. She held on to that identity for many years, only becoming Captain Marvel in 2012. When she finally earned her Captaincy, a new teenage character earned the Ms. Marvel moniker. Kamala Khan was a Pakistani American from Jersey City, New Jersey, with shapeshifting powers that she inherited from her latent Inhuman DNA.
We’ve been anxiously awaiting a real look at Ms. Marvel since we first caught glimpses at a Disney+ sizzle reel in 2020, but now we’re so excited to have a full trailer.
Who is Ms. Marvel and what are her powers?
Kamala Khan becomes Ms. Marvel in the comics when a mysterious mist awakens latent powers within her, which include the ability to alter her size and shape. It is unclear as of yet if the backstory to how Kamala got her powers will stay the same. However, with what we see in the trailer it looks like some special bracelets help unlock her power. Among her powers teased include what looks like telekinetic abilities and creating a large cosmic energy-like fist.
In terms of what we know from the comics, Ms. Marvel has a powerful connection to her family, with the bracelets that give her powers coming from her grandmother. This family connection is also one of the key struggles that Kamala experiences as she struggles to balance being a high schooler, a good daughter, and a superhero.
