The Watcher Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix

The Watcher season 2 has just been confirmed, however, we’ll need to wait a little longer until we have a confirmed release date.

Netflix’s hugely-anticipated mystery-thriller The Watcher has finally arrived and, yep, it’s seriously creepy. Based on a true story, the show has already jumped right to the top of viewers’ watchlists, with fans becoming thoroughly invested in the real events.

To recap, The Watcher focuses on the Brannock family, who move into a new dream house only to be disturbed by ominous letters from an anonymous stalker.

The series launched on Netflix on 13 October, and fans have already been sharing the same reactions to the series, with others digging into where the real characters are now.

Has The Watcher season 2 been confirmed?

Yes, following the success of The Watcher, Netflix has renewed Ryan Murphy’s chilling suburban thriller for a second season.

In a tweet posted on 7th November, the streaming platform said: “Following the record-breaking success of DAHMER – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Ryan Murphy & Ian Brennan will create two more installments that will focus on other monstrous figures who have impacted society.

“A second season of The Watcher has also been greenlit!

Of course, being based on a true story, the second series for The Watcher could depend on whether there’s more of the real tale to tell. The original story was first published in a 2018 article on The Cut, which has recently been updated with a four-year follow-up.

The Watcher Season 2

Still, despite multiple investigations by the police and private detectives, The Watcher has never been identified. That means that any potential developments in the eerie case could lead to a new plot for any further installments.

What could happen in The Watcher season 2?

The Watcher captured a terrifying true-crime story from 2014, following the Brannock family as they move into an idyllic suburb in New Jersey only to earn an icy reception from their new neighbors. Things get sinister, however, when they start receiving threatening letters from someone calling themselves The Watcher. With the increasing number of threats from their titular stalker as well as the odd behavior of their neighbors, the family’s paranoia continues to grow as they try to figure out just who is trying to turn their dream into a nightmare. Currently, there are no details of how the mystery will pick back up in Season 2.

Netflix is yet to confirm whether season 2 will continue the story from the first season or become an anthology series.

The Watcher Season 2

The Watcher’s finale featured Karen running away from 657 Boulevard screaming after seemingly encountering The Watcher – although what we know from the real-life case is that The Watcher has never been identified.

The real-life Broaddus family – who inspired the Brannocks – moved out of the house after five years in 2019. A new family moved in and the Broaddus family passed along the letters they received so they would be able to identify the writing if they were to ever receive the same threatening mail. The new family hasn’t received anything.

Which cast members could return for season 2?

If The Watcher does return, we’d expect Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale back as Dean and Nora Brannock and Isabel Gravitt and Luke David Blumm as Ellie and Carter Brannock, their two children.

We’d hope Legally Blonde legend and White Lotus Emmy-winner Jennifer Coolidge will be back as a realtor and chum Karen Calhoun. We know Noma Dumezweni, who stars as private investigator Theodora Birch, is unlikely to return – unless in flashback form – as she sadly dies of liver cancer.
