Carnival Row Season 2 Release Date, Cast, Plot, and Everything

We’ve got all the info on the Carnival Row season 2 release date, covering the future of Cara Delevigne’s fantasy series and the Burgue.

Amazon Prime Video’s fantasy series Carnival Row turned out to be one of the streamer’s underrated gems. Starring Cara Delevingne and Orlando Bloom, the steampunk TV series premiered in August 2019 with eight episodes, and it introduced us to a dark Victorian-style dystopian world shattered by war and species division, but based on the ending, it’s clear that its epic tale is far from over. Thankfully, Carnival Row has been renewed for a second season, and fans want to know when they can stream it on Amazon Prime.

Even though Prime Video series Carnival Row wrapped filming its Season 2 a long time ago, fans of the series have had to wait more than a year to check out how the story continues – and they’ll have to wait a little more. A few days ago, Prime Video finally revealed the release date for the next batch of episodes: They are coming in early 2023. The bad news is, the streamer has also officially confirmed that the next season of the fantasy series will be its last.

Carnival Row Season 2 Production

Due to its early renewal in 2019, fans are expecting Carnival Row Season 2 to come out soon, but in the wake of COVID-19 last year, the series received plenty of setbacks. Production started in November 2019 but was halted in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, when the production crew commenced preparations to resume filming in the first week of May, Amazon had yet to announce an official release date. Soon it was reported that the show was only three weeks away to wrap up production, which resumed in May 2021 in the Czech Republic to film the remaining scenes which involve Orlando Bloom who was not available last year due to the birth of his first child with Katy Perry. It didn’t take much time to conclude filming, but it would take additional time to wrap the post-production for the critically-acclaimed series.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in February 2021, Tamzin Merchant, who plays Imogen Spurnrose in the show, revealed that only five out of eight episodes were wrapped up.

The official Twitter account of Carnival Row also shared first-look set photos to celebrate the final day of production for Season 2, teasing the return of Philo and Vignette.

plot

There are several different mythical races living in the Burgue, like the faeries/Fae and the half-man/half-goat Fauns, and there are even witches, goblins, and wolf-men thrown in for good measure. So it’s safe to say that the Burgue is a pretty tumultuous place to live in the drama series. It doesn’t help that different political parties are vying for power amongst the chaos.

Carnival Row’s first season ends with a surprising reveal about who Philo really is, as well as some dire ramifications for anyone who’s remotely different in the Burgue, as brutal apartheid is put in place. Clearly, things are going to be drastically different the next time we meet Philo and the rest of Burgue’s inhabitants.

Most of the story for the 2nd season is set in a fictional city called the Burgue. Season 2 can be expected to provide an exploration of the secrets of the Burgue and the history of the world. Showrunner Guggenheim told in an interview, “the trick with Philo is not as simple as him embracing the fact that he is fae. To the fae, he is a half-blood and not really a fae. And he is not human enough for the humans so he is basically a man with no country. That’s another thing that he will be wrestling with in the second season.”

What To Expect In Carnival Row Season 2?

The synopsis for the second season hasn’t been released yet but based on the ending of the first season it is likely that we will learn more about segregation. In the last episode of the first season of the series, the government released an order for the segregation of “magical” creatures from normal people. Philo realizes that this will be his separation from Vignette, he declares that he is also fae and decided to join her in the ghetto.

On the other hand, Agreus and Imogen sailed away to a safer place; however, they refuse to return to the city when the authorities ordered their ship to come back. Tamzin Merchant who played the character Imogen teased about what’s ahead for her character, told in an interview that Argeus and Imogen getting on the ship in the final episode of season 1 will be grand for the first 5 minutes of season 2.

All things considered, it can be concluded that the couple will take a more adventurous path while facing obstacles ahead and eventually their plot might merge with vignettes and Philo’s. Season 2 will discover whether fae and humans end up in a war against each other or if will they be able to co-exist. We’ll just have to wait and see if Philo and vignette will get a chance to be together or not.

Carnival Row Season 2 Cast

So who will return to the Burgue in Season 2 of Carnival Row? As Philo and Vignette Stonemoss are being persecuted by the Burgue’s overlords, Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne will both return to their respective roles.

Naturally, Tamzin Merchant and David Gyasi will make a comeback as the star-crossed lovers Agreus and Imogen Spurnrose. However, because of the newly established apartheid, their relationship will definitely come under threat. In relation to the Spurnrose clan, Andrew Gower will reprise his role as Imogen’s brother, Ezra.

Tourmaline Larou, Vignette’s ex-lover, is also featured in Season 2, and Karla Crome is back to reprise her role as the courtesan. As interim Chancellor Jonah Breakspear, Artemas Froushan will also be back. His position will probably involve ruling the Burgue with an iron grip.

According to Deadline, Jamie Harris’ Sergeant Dombey is now a series regular, giving him more screen time this time around. He frequently expresses his racist beliefs in Season 1, which will only give him more confidence moving into Season 2.

Several more characters will probably appear in Season 2, but Amazon hasn’t yet made it known who else will be joining the group. In order to rescue the magical society from its oppressors, Philo and Vignette must perhaps find some new friends.

Release date

Prime Video premieres Carnival Row season 2 on February 17. Also, ten episodes are set to roll out weekly. but, the bad news is, the streamer has also officially confirmed that the next season of the fantasy series will be its last.
