In a single year, Marvel, DC, and Sony will release ten superhero movies. Every superhero film set to hit theaters in 2022 is listed below with order.
The year 2022 is jam-packed with superhero films from both Marvel and DC. So this year will be an awesome one. In 2022, ten superhero films will be released, with several of them arriving in theaters within weeks of each other.
The discussion over superhero weariness has been going on for years, with a number of filmmakers, actors, and critics openly stating their hope that audiences go tired of comic book films. This isn’t a new issue; it’s been going on since the release of The Avengers in 2012. Even though 2020 was a relatively quiet year compared to earlier years, the superhero genre is showing no signs of slowing down in 2021.
And also it expanded more with the Marvel Cinematic Universe expanding to include TV shows like as WandaVision and Loki. Marvel’s domination at the box office was demonstrated by Avengers: Endgame, which smashed Avatar’s record as the highest-grossing film of all time (even though for a few months). Perhaps it’s fair to say that, because of the success of Aquaman and the Joker, DC is learning how to stay up with Marvel. 2022 will be a huge year for Superhero movies (and the movie business in general). Especially because 2020 didn’t have any Marvel films due to the pandemic situation. But some of the delayed movies were released in 2021. As a result, Marvel and DC will each release four films in 2022. And also two more films from Sony. Here is a list of all the superhero films that will be released in 2022.
Morbius – January 28, 2022
This is the first superhero film that is going to release in 2022. Morbius the Living Vampire will be the second Spider-Man villain to get his own film in late January 2022. Morbius is a film directed by Daniel Espinosa. And also the character stars Jared Leto as a terminally ill scientist who changes into a monster with a vampire-like need for human blood. Matt Smith, Jared Harris, Tyrese Gibson, and Michael Keaton who is reprising his role as Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming, will star in the Marvel Comics anti-story.
The movie will hit theaters on January 28, 2022.
The Batman – March 4, 2022
This movie will be another turning point in DC. Matt Reeves’ The Batman was set to be released in June 2021 before the coronavirus epidemic. But production was delayed, as the similar cases with other films, this movie was also postponed. As a result, The Batman has been rescheduled to March 4, 2022. And also this is DC’s first superhero movie of this year. This movie will be a huge one for DC. Because this is the Caped Crusader’s first solo adventure since Christian Bale’s Batman days ended with The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.
Robert Pattinson’s Batman will be introduced to audiences in this new big-screen portrayal of Bruce Wayne’s storyline. Batman will be pitted against the Riddler and other villains in a film that will focus more on the detective aspects of the character than earlier Batman films. Catwoman will also appear in the film, which will cover the early years of Batman’s career.
The Batman movie will hit theaters on March 4, 2022.
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness – May 6, 2022
Wow, this is the hype of 2022. Just as Spider-Man No Way Home became the most anticipated movie of 2021, this movie will be the most anticipated movie of 2022.
Benedict Cumberbatch returns as Doctor Strange for his second solo movie after six years of his first appearance in the MCU. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently undergoing extensive reshoots and additional photography as of this writing. According to rumors, there will be a few Dr. Stranger and Scarlet Witchers. And also will there will be a few cameos from famous characters such as Daredevil and Wolverine. But those are not confirmed yet.
The movie will hit theaters on May 6, 2022.
DC League Of Super-Pets – May 20, 2022
DC’s own animated feature, DC League of Super-Pets, will be released in theaters in 2022. The film is likely to focus on super-powered animal sidekicks from DC Comics, such as Krypto the Super Dog, Batman’s dog; Ace the Bat-Hound, Merton the super speed turtle, and others. And also the movie will be directed by Wreck-It Ralph co-writers Jared Stern and Sam Levine. The Legion of Super-Pets, a 1960s comic book squad, is the basis for the film.
Although few details about the film have been revealed, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Marc Maron have been voicing as Krypto the Superdog, Ace the Bat-Hound, and Lex Luthor, respectively. This movie will hit theaters on May 20, 2022.
Thor: Love And Thunder – July 8, 2022
This movie is also one of the most anticipated movie in 2022. Taika Waititi returns to write and direct the fourth Thor film. With this movie, Thor will be the first hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who has four solo films. Of course, Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor, with Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Natalie Portman reprising her role as Jane Foster for the first time since Thor: The Dark World. And also, Jane is set to become Mighty Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Zeus (Russell Crowe) and Gorr the God Butcher ((Christian Bale) the latter of whom is the film’s main villain) are two new characters who have joined the fold.
Thor: Love and Thunder also faced postponement as Marvel pushed its release date back a few months. It was originally scheduled to be released in May 2022, but it will now be released in July 2022.
Black Adam – July 29, 2022
After numerous delays and a pause from the filming schedule, Black Adam will finally hit theaters in July 2022. The DC film, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Dwayne Johnson for the main role. And also the movie is based on a script by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani. Since Black Adam has been in development since 2014, it appears that 2022 will finally be the film’s time to shine.
The movie will hit theaters on July 29, 2022.
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2 – October 7, 2022
The box office success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was remarkable, but the critical acclaim for Sony’s animated Spider-Man film was even more so. It even won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. So it’s no wonder that Sony Pictures will continue Miles Morales’ journey by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2. It will feature many incarnations of the web-slinger, similar to the first film, with one of the recent additions being the main character from the late 1970s Japanese Spider-Man series.
The movie will hit theaters on October 7, 2022.
The Flash – November 4, 2022
The Flash, which was supposed to come out in 2018, finally has a new release date and a new director. Andy Muschietti was selected to direct The Flash in July after many directors pulled out owing to creative disputes. The Scarlet Speedster will be played by Ezra Miller, who previously played Barry Allen in the Justice League movie. The Flash is based on the DC Comics crossover Flashpoint, in which Barry uses time travel to save his mother. The roles of Batman will be reprised by Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck.
The Flash movie will release on November 4, 2022.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – November 11, 2022
When Black Panther was released in February 2018, it broke record after record. And also, it didn’t take long for it to become the fifth MCU film to break the $1 billion mark at the global box office. Outside of The Avengers, Black Panther is the most successful MCU film. And now, Marvel is going to release the highly anticipated Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, four years after the first film. Because the previous film’s star, Chadwick Boseman, died, the sequel is anticipated to focus on the other characters that reside in Wakanda rather than just the Black Panther. However the film was supposed to come out in July 2022, it was postponed owing to difficulties.
The movie will release on November 11, 2022.
Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom – December 16, 2022
According to the list, this is the last superhero movie that will be released in 2022.
Aquaman, directed by James Wan, proved to fans – and the studio that DC movies didn’t have to rely on Batman and Superman to sell tickets anymore. With a worldwide box office of more than $1 billion, it seemed a foregone conclusion that a sequel would be released soon. Warner Bros. confirmed two months after the first film’s release that a sequel was in the planning.
Whatever the plot, Patrick Wilson’s Ocean Master (though not as the major villain) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta will return in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
The movie will hit theaters on December 16, 2022.
