What Happened in Fate: The Winx Saga Season 1?

Fate: The Winx Saga, the latest YA fantasy series to top Netflix charts, is a coming-of-age story about Bloom (played by Abigail Cowen), a 16-year-old changeling fire fairy who arrives in the Otherworld to join Alfea, the magical school for faeries. Alfea College is home to fairies who possess a range of magical powers and specialists, who fight melee style. However, in the first season, Bloom was able to enroll at Alfea, a special school for fairies and non-magical students known as “specialists”.

Bloom makes friends at the college when she is put in a boarding suite with Stella (a light fairy), Aisha (a water fairy), Terra (an earth fairy), and Musa (a mind fairy). After learning to control her fire powers throughout the course of the first season, Bloom is eventually able to awaken an ancient power inside her and utilize it to repel an approaching onslaught by otherworldly monsters known as Burned Ones.

She learns that everything she knew about her family isn’t true, leading her on a quest to find out who her true parents are from, and where she came from.

Here we are not going to spoil the plot of season 1. If you have not seen it yet, we invite you to watch it as soon as possible.

Has Netflix renewed Fate: The Winx Saga for Season 2?

Yes! On February 18, 2021, a little more than one month after the show’s premiere Netflix renewed Fate: The Winx Saga for Season 2. This isn’t surprising since the show held the #1 spot in Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 list for multiple days even though the first season was extremely short with just six 50-minute episodes.

A season 2 announcement video was also dropped on YouTube to confirm the news further.

And also, Netflix has announced that Season 2 of Fate: The Winx Saga will consist of 8 episodes. 2 more episodes than the first one. Season 1 only consisted of 6 50-minute episodes.

What Is the Fate: The Winx Saga Season 2 Plot?

A lot of things happened in the last episode of Season 1. Bloom unlocks a new level of her fairy powers, showing her transforming with fiery fairy wins and taking down an army of Burned Ones in the process. Bloom also reveals to her parents that she is a changeling, a fairy that switched at birth with their human baby, and they appear to accept her.

In our January 2022 interview with Abigail Cowen (Bloom), the leading lady teased that we can expect “more love stories, more magic, more fighting, [and] bigger threats,” from the next season along with the introduction of some new, and interestingly, some old, characters. As any OG Winx Club fans will be aware, the four friends Bloom makes in Fate: The Winx Saga is not the same five we see in Winx Club. While Stella, Aisha, and Musa are reused in the Winx reboot with different powers, we are missing two of the original gang: Tecna and fan-favorite Flora. Well, all that is about to change as Flora is about to reenter the Otherworld, played by Paulina Chávez. So there is that to look forward to, and it will be interesting to see how she will interact with her cousin in the show, Terra.

As for how the plot will develop, we can only speculate. Stella’s mother has played a key role in the hostile take-over of Alfea. So we can hope that with the assistance of her new friends, Stella might find the courage to rebel and fight against her mother’s wishes. Sky, played by Danny Griffin, also has some parental troubles to face up to given his father has shown up not only alive but not quite where he wanted him to be. Griffin himself has said “I think Sky is not going to know where to start,” and we’d be inclined to agree. Presumably, the girls are set to be fighting much more familiar enemies this time around, but only time will tell.

Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 release date

Unfortunately for fairy fans, the live-action adaptation’s season 2 is yet to receive an official release date by Netflix. However, it’s not all bad news. According to IMDb, Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 went into post-production in January 2022, meaning we’re already potentially halfway through its post-production-process.

Post-production typically takes between six to eight months to complete before a show or movie finds its way to our screens.

However, post-production for season 1 took 13 months to complete. So, we doubt it will take this long again this time around. Accordingly, there is some potential for the series to return much later, perhaps even in January 2023. As many fans would recall, Fate: The Winx Saga season 1 made its debut on Netflix in January 2021, so it’s not too much of a stretch for us to think that perhaps the second season will be released following a similar schedule.

For the moment, we will have to wait and see what further announcements will follow!
