First Look at Disney’s New Planet of the Apes Sequel

Disney officially reveals the first look at Planet of the Apes 4, which is titled Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and set years in the future.

Disney and 20th Century have officially announced the fourth movie in the “Planet of the Apes” franchise, titled “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.” The announcement was accompanied by an early first look. The original franchise was rebooted by 20th Century Fox in 2011 with “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” directed by Rupert Wyatt. The subsequent two sequels were helmed by Matt Reeves and centered around the character of Caesar, portrayed by Andy Serkis. The films received critical acclaim and commercial success, leading Disney to continue the franchise after acquiring 20th Century Studios.

Director Wes Ball, known for his work on the “Maze Runner” trilogy, has been involved in the development of “Planet of the Apes 4” for Disney and 20th Century Studios. The project aims to launch a new trilogy within the same continuity as the recent reboot of the “Planet of the Apes” franchise. The plot details have been kept largely undisclosed, but it is known that the story will follow the events after the conclusion of “War for the Planet of the Apes” and the death of the character Caesar. Owen Teague has been cast as the lead ape in “Planet of the Apes 4.”

The title of the upcoming movie in the “Planet of the Apes” franchise has been revealed as “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.” 20th Century Studios also shared an early concept art piece, which indicates that the film is set in the future, many years after the events of “War for the Planet of the Apes.” In addition, the casting announcements for Freya Allen from “The Witcher” and Peter Macon from “The Orville” were made. While an official release date has not been announced, production is scheduled to begin next month, and it is speculated that the movie may be released in 2024.

What Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Could Be About

The first look at Disney’s upcoming movie, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” does not reveal many story details. However, it is evident that a significant amount of time has passed since the events of “War for the Planet of the Apes.” The image shows the new lead ape standing in front of a ruined human city, which is now heavily covered in vegetation. This suggests that the movie may be set several decades after the previous film, allowing for significant changes to the world and the ape civilization.

The title “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” hints at the potential direction of the movie’s story. Just as the previous films explored different stages of the ape and human conflict, this installment could focus on the aftermath of the apes’ rise to power. It suggests the possibility of multiple ape kingdoms existing and may explore how apes have established their dominance over the world. The title also raises the intriguing prospect of showcasing the human experience on a planet now controlled by apes, reminiscent of the original “Planet of the Apes” concept. This new film has the potential to delve into the dynamics and challenges of a world where apes rule and humans are the minority.
