Planet of The Apes 4 Is Actually Happening

Confirmed: Planet of the Apes 4 in the Works, Bringing Back the Saga of Apes and Planetary Conquests

The Planet of the Apes franchise started more than 50 years ago with a movie released in 1968. It was based on a novel by Pierre Boulle and featured Charlton Heston as an astronaut who lands on a planet inhabited by intelligent apes. Eventually, he discovers that the planet is actually Earth in the distant future. The success of the first film led to four more sequels released in theaters between 1968 and 1973, as well as a remake by Tim Burton in 2001.

After a decade of silence, the franchise was revived in 2011 with the release of “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” a prequel and reboot of the series. The film starred James Franco and Freida Pinto and introduced Andy Serkis as the main ape character, Caesar. It depicted the disastrous consequences of human experiments on apes, leading to the apes eventually taking over the planet. This film was followed by “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” in 2014 and “War for the Planet of the Apes” in 2017, both directed by Matt Reeves, who also directed “The Batman.”

To date, there have been a total of nine films in the Planet of the Apes franchise. The original series consisted of five films released from 1968 to 1973. In 2001, there was a remake of the original film directed by Tim Burton. More recently, a trilogy was released, including Rise of the Planet of the Apes in 2011, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in 2014, and War for the Planet of the Apes in 2017. With Disney’s acquisition of Fox, they now own the rights to the franchise and are showing a strong commitment to continuing its development.

The Planet of The Apes Franchise Seemed to Have Come to a Conclusion With Fourth Movie

In 2011, Rise of the Planet of the Apes was released, showcasing the origin story of intelligent apes resulting from scientific experimentation. The story continued with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in 2014 and War for the Planet of the Apes in 2017. These sequels depicted a future where a battle for dominance leads to the death of the ape leader, Caesar, while introducing his youngest son, Cornelius. Interestingly, the name Cornelius also appears in the original series of movies, where Charlton Heston’s character interacts with a character named Dr. Cornelius. This connection suggests that the newer films may serve as prequels as well as remakes, adding depth and continuity to the franchise.

The previous two films in the franchise were directed by Matt Reeves, who will be replaced by Wes Bell for the upcoming installment. It is currently unknown how the new movie will connect to the previous ones or potentially the 1968 film. Given that five years have passed since the last film, it is uncertain which cast members, if any, will return for the fourth installment. However, the production of the film appears to be progressing positively, and more details will be revealed in due course.
