Fans can look forward to his special style and take on the classic Frankenstein story.

Frankenstein Netflix Movie: Let’s go back a bit to catch you up. Since 2020, Guillermo del Toro has been working only with Netflix through a special deal. He’s made two big projects for them already: the award-winning movie “Pinocchio” and the horror series “Cabinet of Curiosities,” both in 2022.

In early December 2022, during a chat on the Variety Awards Podcast, Guillermo del Toro talked about his next project, saying:

“Well, I’m working on a monster movie. I can’t reveal the title because it might change, and I might end up doing something different. But currently, I’m writing and designing for it. We’ve been working on it for the past couple of years. Hopefully, it’ll be the next project, but you never know what might happen.”

A few days later, we revealed to Deadline that the monster movie at Netflix would be titled “Dr. Frankenstein,” and shortly afterward, we confirmed the project.

According to our information, Netflix initially secured the rights to Elizabeth S. Wrightson’s Frankenstein in March 2022. This involves obtaining the visual representation created by Bernie Wrightson for the character, who unfortunately passed away in 2017.

The project has been in development across various locations before finding its home at Netflix. Guillermo del Toro has been discussing the project as far back as 2008.

Gary Ungar and J. Miles Dale are producing the project, while Dan Laustsen is serving as the director of photography. Robin D. Cook and Denise Chamian are handling the casting. At Netflix, Jason Young is leading the project.

Del Toro officially confirmed the project himself at the Pacific Rim 10th Anniversary IMAX 3D Event in early October 2023, during an interview with Cinematics World.

“I’m doing Frankenstein. We’re working on it, we start shooting on it in February. It’s a movie I’ve been wanting to do for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein and I had an epiphany and is basically a movie that requires a lot of growth and a lot of tools that I couldn’t have done 10 years ago, 20 years ago and now I’m brave or crazy enough or something and we’re going to tackle it.”
