Knuckles: Paramount was very confident in their Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Even before the sequel arrived in 2022, they announced a spinoff series. Knuckles, featuring Idris Elba as the voice of the red echidna antihero, has already released its first trailer on Paramount+.
The series is intended to connect Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and this year’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3. It stars Idris Elba as Knuckles and Adam Pally as Deputy Sheriff Wade Whipple, who undergoes training to become an Echidna warrior.
The cast of the Knuckles series includes franchise regular Tika Sumpter, along with Cary Elwes, Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi, Ellie Taylor, Rory McCann, Stockard Channing, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, and Rob Huebel. Jim Carrey, however, is not part of the series, but he continues to play Robotnik in the main Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
Jeff Fowler, who directed each film in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, has also directed the Knuckles pilot. The series was created by John Whittington and Toby Ascher. Other directors for future episodes include Jorma Taccone, Carol Banker, Brandon Trost, and Ged Wright
Series will start streaming on Paramount+ on April 26th, setting the stage for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which will be released in theaters on December 20th.
