Leprechaun Reboot: Potential Cast, Plot, and Everything We Know

The beloved slasher series Leprechaun Reboot is officially in the works at Lionsgate.

Once again, Lionsgate is bringing back the Leprechaun horror franchise from the 1990s for a new generation of fans. Starting in 1993, this cult-classic horror-comedy series follows various characters who make the mythical Irish creature angry after stealing his pot of gold. While the original series had a playful tone, the later sequels took things to new extremes, with the Leprechaun venturing into space and urban settings like “the hood” in the early 2000s. However, Lionsgate sees the value in this famous franchise and is making a new version of it for today’s audience.

The upcoming reboot isn’t the first time Lionsgate has tried to restart the franchise it got from Trimark in the early 2000s. They made a new Leprechaun movie in 2014 called Leprechaun: Origins. However, it didn’t do well. Furthermore, the sequel in 2018, Leprechaun Returns, wasn’t great either. But Lionsgate didn’t give up. Despite these setbacks, Lionsgate remained determined. Each Leprechaun movie follows a similar pattern. Consequently, it’s this familiar setup that will probably bring the “classic” 1990s spooky character back into the spotlight of horror movies in the 21st century.

Latest News

Although there isn’t much information available about Lionsgate’s upcoming Leprechaun reboot, the most significant news about the film was confirmed in June 2023. It was officially announced that a new Leprechaun movie is in development. This marks the second time that the franchise from the 1990s has been restarted since Lionsgate acquired the property in 2000 with their $50 million purchase of Trimark. While only a few details have been disclosed, the announcement indicates that the Leprechaun project is more than just speculation happening behind the scenes.

30 years after the original movie came out, the cheesy horror film is going to get a modern makeover by Roy Lee, who produced “It.” Working alongside co-producer Miri Yoon, the highly anticipated Leprechaun reboot will be directed by the rising filmmaker Felipe Vargas. Also, it’s been announced that Mike Van Waes, who recently wrote the script for Disney’s live-action remake of “Lilo & Stitch,” will be writing the screenplay for this reboot.

The Leprechaun Reboot Cast

Similar to other aspects of the Leprechaun reboot, no actors have been confirmed for the cast yet. However, it’s possible to guess who might appear in the film, including Warwick Davis, who played the main Leprechaun character in the first six movies. He’s well-known for roles in Harry Potter and Willow. In later films, the role went to WWE wrestler Dylan Postl in Leprechaun: Origins and Linden Porco in Leprechaun Returns.

Another possible actor for the role of the Leprechaun is Peter Dinklage, best known for his iconic portrayal of Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones. Dinklage is a highly talented and renowned actor, celebrated for his exceptional performances on both the big and small screen. With his remarkable acting skills and widespread popularity, Dinklage could bring a unique and captivating interpretation to the mythical Irish creature in the Leprechaun reboot.

What Will Happen In The Leprechaun Reboot?

Horror movies often rely on familiar plots, and the Leprechaun reboot will likely follow a similar pattern, with a new group of characters facing the anger of the scary monster after they steal his gold. This time around, the film might move away from the comedy seen in the sequels and instead show the tricky folk character as more scary. Regardless of the specific storyline, viewers can anticipate that the Leprechaun reboot will retain some of the charm, whether it’s lucky or not, that made the absurd horror villain so unforgettable.

The Release Date

Since the reboot of Leprechaun is still in the early stages of development, there isn’t an official release date yet. The production team is likely working hard to bring the project to life, but until further announcements are made, fans will have to wait patiently for any updates regarding when they can expect to see the film in theaters or on screens.
