Live-Action ‘Snow White’ Coming Soon: Rachel Zegler to Star in Beloved Character’s Role, Check Out the Latest Updates
Disney’s classic fairytale, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, is getting a live-action remake produced by Walt Disney Pictures. The story of Snow White has been portrayed in live-action before, with Lily Collins and Kristen Stewart playing the titular character in different films. Both movies also featured the iconic Evil Queen, who will be making an appearance in this upcoming live-action film as well.
Snow White was Disney’s first animated movie, and people still love it very much. They have been planning this live-action film since 2016, so there is a lot of excitement around it. HollywoodLife has collected all the details we currently know about the upcoming Snow White movie, like the cast, when it will be released, and more.
Who is playing snow white?
Rachel Zegler, the fortunate actress chosen to play Snow White in the live-action version, made her onscreen debut in Steven Spielberg’s 2021 remake of West Side Story. She co-starred with Ansel Elgort and Ariana DeBose and received the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical.
Rachel Zegler’s casting as Snow White in the live-action adaptation was officially announced in June 2021. Director Marc Webb praised her extraordinary vocal abilities, stating that they were just the beginning of her gifts. Rachel herself expressed her excitement on Instagram, writing, “Well… hello to a dream come true.” To prepare for the role, she later cut her hair into a short bob to embody the iconic Disney princess.

Rachel Zegler, who is Latina, encountered unfair criticism and backlash for being cast as the lead in Snow White. She opened up about this issue during a conversation with Andrew Garfield on Variety’s Actors on Actors series in January 2022.
“I could never have fathomed that such an opportunity would come my way. It’s not common to witness Snow White characters of Latin heritage,” she revealed during the interview. “Seeing someone like me portray such roles is rare. When the announcement was made, it sparked a massive trend on Twitter as many people expressed their discontent. However, we should channel our love and support in the right direction. Ultimately, I’m thrilled to take on this role and embrace the chance to be a Latina princess.”
Snow White Live Action Release Date
Snow White will hit the theaters on March 22, 2024. The release date for Disney+ has not been announced yet, but it will probably come after the movie finishes its run in theaters.
Once Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot were officially cast, the production for the live-action remake began in March 2022. However, there was a temporary pause during filming due to a fire incident that damaged the set at Pinewood Studios in England. In April 2022, Gal confirmed that she had finished filming her scenes, including musical numbers. The filming wrapped up in July 2022.
Snow White Crew & Cast
In the live-action adaptation of Snow White, Rachel Zegler will be starring alongside Gal Gadot, who is taking on the role of the Evil Queen. Gal is widely recognized for her portrayal of Wonder Woman in various films within the DC Extended Universe, such as Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984, and Justice League. She was officially announced as part of the Snow White cast in November 2021 and expressed her excitement about the role at the premiere of her Netflix film Red Notice, saying she can’t wait to embody the character of the Evil Queen.

The last addition to the cast of the remake is Andrew Burnap, who will portray a new character named Jonathan. Andrew is known for his acclaimed performance in the Broadway production of The Inheritance, for which he won a Tony Award. He has also appeared in the 2018 film The Chaperone and has taken on various television roles in shows like Younger, The Good Fight, WeCrashed, and Under the Banner of Heaven.
