“Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” Release is Delayed

Fans of Spider-Verse will need to wait a bit more before they can watch Miles Morales’ upcoming adventure.

Due to ongoing strikes by both the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA, Sony has made changes to the release dates for several of its upcoming movies. One significant change is the delay of the third Spider-Verse film, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. It was originally set for a March 2024 release but is now without a specific release date. Sony is exploring various dates, and the choice will depend on the duration of the strikes.

On the other hand, some movies Sony had planned for 2023 are now moving to 2024. Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven the Hunter film was supposed to come out in October, but now it’s going to be released on August 30, 2024. Also, the unnamed sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which was set for December 2023, will now be released on March 29, 2024.

There are some more changes as well. Gran Turismo is being delayed by two weeks to August 25. Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web will be released a few days earlier on February 14, 2024. The Karate Kid movie is moving from June 7 to December 13, 2024. However, the Blumhouse horror movie They Listen has been taken off the release calendar altogether.

Furthermore, Sony has shared new dates for some upcoming movies: The next Bad Boys film, with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, will be released on June 14 during Father’s Day weekend. Additionally, the third Venom movie, featuring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, is scheduled for release on July 12, 2024.

These release date shifts are numerous, and more may follow. The strike by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA has brought film and TV production to a halt. The Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers (AMPTP) hasn’t met the guilds’ demands, so the strikes are likely to continue. Just recently, the Emmys decided to postpone their awards ceremony from September 18 to an as-yet-unannounced date.

Even if there wasn’t a strike, releasing “Beyond the Spider-Verse” in March 2024 was a tight schedule. In the previous month, producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller stated that they intended to ensure that “Beyond the Spider-Verse” is of high quality and that they wouldn’t rush it to meet a release date. They emphasized that they wouldn’t force it into a schedule that didn’t allow for the necessary development time.
