Featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in lead roles, Titanic depicts the tragic sinking of the RMS Titanic and revolves around their characters who develop a romance despite their contrasting social backgrounds. The movie also includes notable performances by Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, Frances Fisher, Gloria Stuart, Bernard Hill, Jonathan Hyde, Victor Garber, and Bill Paxton.

When it first came out in 1997, Titanic was an enormous success, receiving widespread acclaim from both critics and viewers. It was the first film ever to surpass one billion dollars in box office earnings and held the title of the highest-grossing movie until James Cameron’s Avatar surpassed it in 2009.

Titanic received a remarkable 14 Academy Award nominations, matching the record set by the film All About Eve in 1950. Out of those nominations, Titanic won 11 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director. This achievement equaled the record set by Ben-Hur in 1959 for the most Oscars won by a single film.
