Norwegian Monster Movie Kraken: Pal Oie, who directed the 2019 action thriller “The Tunnel,” is teaming up with the same producers for a new Norwegian monster movie called “Kraken.” TrustNordisk will manage the international sales of the thriller, starting at the European Film Market during the Berlin Film Festival.

“Kraken,” currently in development with a late 2025 theatrical release in mind, will bring to life the legendary tale of a monstrous creature from the depths of the ocean, returning to cause chaos.

Casting details have yet to be announced, but the thriller will center on Johanne, a marine biologist investigating a fjord where she uncovers mysterious events, including the violent deaths of two local teenagers. The film’s synopsis describes a legendary monster lurking at the bottom of Norway’s deepest fjord, colossal in size with numerous arms capable of crushing and consuming anything within reach.

Local folklore in Norway and Iceland tells of the Kraken, a colossal sea creature resembling a squid or octopus, said to dwell in the nearby seas, emerging sporadically to wreak havoc. Filming for Kraken will take place off the coast of Norway later this year.

John Einar Hagen and Einar Loftesnes are producing Kraken, with Vilde Eide penning the screenplay. Sjur Aarthun will serve as the cinematographer and editor for the Norwegian-language thriller.

Susan Wendt, managing director of TrustNordisk, expressed excitement about bringing the Kraken to life alongside Pal Oie and the team behind The Tunnel. Oie, known for his work on Hidden and Dark Woods, will direct the film, set to awaken the legendary sea monster in its original fjord habitat.
